An introduction to the Yoga of Awareness

In this workshop, you will be developing or expanding your existing spiritual practice through the incredible technology of Kundalini Yoga. We will briefly discuss its roots, its purpose & function, and how we can implement this powerful tool in our everyday lives. Many people approach yoga from a purely physical perspective, but Kundalini Yoga is called the “Yoga of Awareness.” In Kundalini Yoga we begin with the physical, but only as a tool to transcend our own limitations. The spirit is boundless, and yet the body is not. We will be moving into subtle realms where your soul resides.

and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock."

This is a journey of the redemption of the Self.

This course was created for anyone who has ever felt alone in a crowded room, thoughts racing, paranoia and anxiety mounting high leading to an episode of disassociation; or perhaps you are someone who relies heavily on others for your fulfillment, treating them as a pseudo-God that will lead you to a promised land only to be left disappointed, bitter, and disenchanted.

The goal of this workshop is to cultivate our inner light, to learn to be our own guide. During these 8 weeks, we will be confronting manifestations of the overactive mind caused by trauma and the subsequent trauma responses: feelings of helplessness and hopelessness, anger and cynicism, fear, dissociative moments, and an inability to embrace complexity. Each week, we will be peeling away layers of old conditioning, slowly working our way up to building a strong nervous system, one that offers us the gift of self-reliance. By the end of the 8 weeks, the student should experience a feeling of Anastasis, a rebirth.

You may attend each class individually, but the full workshop is recommended for the full experience and effect.

The Descent into Madness

Week 1

We begin with the Descent. Like Dante, we have entered the Inferno and there is no turning back. We feel powerless, in total disbalance, compulsive, and anxious. The goal of the first week is to calm down the nervous system in an effort to begin the healing process.

The Fear of Death

Week 4

We are met with the ultimate reason for our dysfunction: the fear of death. We fear the death of the Ego: the constructed and accepted images, stories, thoughts, and feelings that culminate in a fabric of pain weaving the tapestry of our lives. We must allow ourselves to feel powerless, accept the surrender before we can move forward.

Finding Stillness

Week 7

The journey has been long, but through hard work we have finally come to a place of stillness. We will be practicing what is known as Pratyahar to experience the infinite. It is because of the ego that we are confined and our spirit shatters, but when we are able to meet with God we reach mental infinity, we are divine.

The Word of Wrath

Week 2

We will explore this driving force that finds expression in our neurotic states: rage. In this state, we become unable to see past any given situation. We operate from a limited animal perspective and end up hurting not only ourselves, but others as well. In the second module, we will learn how to focus our anger and rage to strengthen our nervous system.

The Unrecognizable Face in the Mirror

Week 5

How many times have I molded myself to fit into someone else’s version or idea of me? I did it to be liked, to gain favor, to feel safe, but ultimately it was at the expense of my own soul. When we have experienced trauma early on, it is natural that we become solely focused on survival at the expense of our happiness. We will take the necessary space to look deeply at ourselves. Who am I? Who do I want to be?

Anastasis

Week 8

“In the present moment, I am free.”

The final week, a culmination of all of the intense experiences from weeks’ past, will have us transforming the energy focused on the lower three chakras and sending it up the spine to the upper triangle. We will be solidifying and projecting outward the mystical experiences we have had thus far. No longer needing to rely on anyone but oneself, the practitioner should experience a catharsis.

The Edge of Sorrow

Week 3

This week we come home to our sorrow. Underneath the rage lies a profound helplessness in facing the immensity of life. The release of true anger leads to intimacy. The grief buried within is a key to healing because “when we compress the terrain of grief, we compress the territory of joy and we end up living in a flatline culture.”

Seeking Redemption

Week 6

A deep dependence on the other, for security, for affection or love, often leads to resentment. We do not believe that we have the capacity within us to create anything out of our own volition. The conflict between needing to be in the embrace of the other and the feelings of enslavement are unbearable. In order to move forward, we must find forgiveness for ourselves so that we may forgive the other.
